Should I sell Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 or keep?

Hi everyone,

I have Canon R10 and lens Canon RF 50mm f/1.8. I decided to got Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 a few day ago. But I don’t know should I keep Rf 50mm or not? My hobby is normal, not professional photographer.

If you don't need the money, I'd keep it. Compare the image quality.

And, you never know. Someday, you might accidentally drop your 18-50.

Its a $199 lens. You'd probably take a loss if you sold it. I had the EF version and threw it in when I sold my 6D2. I'd keep it around. Its not like RF glass is going away anytime soon.

I get your way of thinking. I notice i very rarely use the RF50/1.8 wide open,and i have an f2.8 lens near that focal length(70-200). I'll keep it for some time to be sure,because it's not losing much value in my camera bag, but won't give it a free pass forever.
I'm curious what it can do for video.That might be the decider for me.

Here's the deal, a 50mm f1.8 prime lens is a specific purpose use lens. It is a difficult lens to live with if it is your only lens. If you are a person that has that need it is invaluable.

Yes that's true but here again too many people make too much about one stop. In by far the most times one stop is not a deal maker or deal breaker. Todays cameras shooting raw along with current editors like Photoshop have made a stop less and less a factor. OK, I know there are other reasons to have a lens that has f1.8 and they are important too but again one stop isn't that big of a deal.

So here's the thing it (the 5mm f1.8 prime) has a bit better IQ and it has that stop advantage but it has a fixed FL, so you decide is that what you need to have or not.

One other consideration is that the RF 50mm F1.8 is a full-frame lens, the Sigma is crop only. If you see in the future and there's a full-frame camera then the RF 50mm will work fine and give you the full frame image resolution, the Sigma will force the full-frame camera to crop mode. So on an EOS R6 Mark II the 50mm will give 24MP images, but the Sigma will only give 9.3MP images.

Sell it if anyone will give you money for it. The nifty 50 most decidedly isn't "nifty" because it's too short to work when you need a telephoto and too long when you need a wide-angel shot. The zoom is a brilliant move. Add one for 50 up.

Arguably it's only a $199 lens at retail, but the moment you buy it, you'll be lucky to get anyone to give you $19 for it. Slight exaggeration.

And that is in a nutshell is why it is a difficult FL to live with if it is your only lens.
