Cheap Canon EF 400mm F/2.8 L II USM?

Please excuse my technical ignorance. Why is this lens so cheap? Cheapest of these I've seen is in the $7,000+ range. Does it not fit the cameras in America? I know they're all made in Japan. Or is this some kind of scam?

Ummm......maybe because the pros who would pay for this lens are dumping them so they can buy the latest version III ($12,000.00)?

Of course it will fit Canon cameras in America. The lens mounts are the same everywhere.

This is the fairly early non-IS version of the lens, I believe that your are thinking of prices for the IS II version of the lens which are in the 5,000 to 7,000 range depending upon condition.

The early non-IS version is a very decent lens but that isn't a stunning price for it and I expect you can find plenty of the non IS lens. And a EF 400 f2.8 II (non-IS) is considerably older than an EF 400 f2.8 IS II.

Two things, one the non-IS first version is about 3 pounds lighter than the IS version. Second, parts if ever needed will be difficult to impossible to get.

If I remember correctly there was a IS version of the first model ef 400mm f2.8L ???
