topic RF Internal Zoom Lenses in EF & RF Lenses

Will Canon manufacture the RF 70-200mm F/2.8 IS L w/internal focus?

I read that many photographers are keeping their EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L II & III to use on their R cameras even if they don't like using the EF/RF convertor.

IMO if they do make an internal focus lens, the current RF 70-200 f/2.8 and f/4 will flood the used market in favor of the internal focus lens.

We don't know. For technical suggestions for Canon to see, go to the Canon USA home page and click on the little teeny +Feedback link:

I'm one of those keeping an older heavier EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM because I can use a 1.4x extender on it. I have tried both the RF 70-200mm F4 and RF 70-200mm F2.8 and they are great, much lighter than the EF ones, but for me teleconverter is the deal breaker.

The RF 70-200 mkII or Z is likely. Rumored. I don't expect it till early next year though. Happy to be wrong 😃

I also have both, but I like the RF 70-200 f2.8 for its compact size. I'll take the external zoom anytime.

If this version is going to be a 'Z' you can count me out. I don't have a need for the power zoom adapter which adds to the cost. Many of us with an EOS R camera are more than satisfied with the standard f/2.8. f/4 L IS lenses in prime or zoom without the power zoom adapter.

I guess we'll be in the minority of folks who keep the EF lenses and use with the adapter.

My guess is the roadmap for the RF lenses will appeal to the small group of people who will spend the money on the power zoom just to have it even if they don't need it. In the USA more is more even if you don't need it.
