topic RF 100-500mm Small Scratch on Front Element in EF & RF Lenses

I wonder how much Canon would charge for replacing the from lens element of my RF 100-500mm lens?

I purchased the RF 100-500mm L lens in 2021, and just a day ago I realized that the from glass element has what it seems to be a small scratch. I have no idea how I scratched the lens since I have only dusted it very lightly with lens brush. The scratch doesn't seem to interfere with the image process, however. Still, it bothers me. The warranty expired earlier this year.

Greetings,

In many cases damage to the front element does not cause image issues. If you want to explore repair options, please start by registering your lens on MyCanon. Next click on support to see your options. You'll be guided to open a case. You should be able to get an estimate from there by contacting support. I personally use clear lens filters on all of my lenses. This helps to protect against unintended bumps, etc. CarePaks are also a great service plan option. These have to be purchased within 30 days of purchase (for future).

I would clean the front lens element with lens cleaner and lens tissue or cloth. Use a blower to blow off loose dirt and dust first, and then clean the lens. It is possible that what you see is a dirt or grease streak and not a scratch. Cleaning will reveal what the issue is.

Thank you for your responses 5DIV, and Shadowsports!

I did register the lens when I purchased it, so I plan to contact Canon to see how much it would cost to repair it. By the way, I have never scratched any of my lenses, and I have no idea how I scratched the front element of this one. Found the scratch when dusting it off. Before I wipe the glass to remove smudges and things like that, I always blow the dust off, brush it with a lens brush (one that has a rubber bulb). The last step is to wipe the lens with a dust-free microfiber cloth or lens tissue that have had been moistened at one corner with a lens cleaning solution. But I seldom have to wipe/clean the glass, since 99.9% of the time a little dusting is all that is needed. I cleaned the lens today, and it does seem to have a scratch (I can feel it using a fingernail).
