Trouble Using Vivitar Lenses on EOS R50

I recently purchased my first new camera in many many years. It is a Canon R50 with an RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens Kit. The vendor included a Vivitar VIV49T-NOC Telephoto Lens and a Vivitar 0.43 Wide Angle Lens (VIV49W-NOC) in the bundle.

Are these lenses designed to attach natively to the camera body with an adapter ring? (None was included). Or are they designed to be used by threading them into the end of the kit lens? I have tried putting the camera in MF Mode with the Vivitar lens attached to the kit lens and the results are less than stellar(!)

Many thanks in advance for the help.

Those lenses intended to mount on the front of a lens like a filter. They are always very low quality. I suggest that you put them away and forget where you put them.

You fell for the package deal from a less-than-stellar dealer. These are inferior, screw-onto-the lens modifiers. They are cheap lures in a camera package. Toss them and get real lenses.

Fortunately the cost of the 'package' was the same as what others were offering for just the camera body and kit lens, so the balance of the included items were essentially 'throw aways.'

I appreciate the reply and the guidance, normadel, and will look for suitable lenses shortly!

"... the cost of the 'package' was the same as what others were offering for just the camera ..."

That is probably true however the camera may not be a Canon USA camera. Personally I would try to return it and buy just the camera from a known good retailer. Neither Amazon nor eBay is a good retailer. If it does happen to be a real deal Canon USA, "put them away and forget where you put them", a better place for those lenses is the trash can. Not only are they crappy but they can actually damage your Canon lens if you are not extremely careful attaching and removing.

Did you get a Canon USA warranty card in the box?

Poor image quality aside, another reason that you would not want to use those add-on lenses is the extra weight. The AF motors in your lenses are not designed to control the additional weight presented by those add-on lenses.

The actual supplier was RedTag Camera. A warranty card was included and I have registered the camera with Canon and purchased a CarePak package for both the camera and the kit lens.

We have only one retailer in my area and they have a questionable reputation.

I had some reservations about purchasing the camera this way but I was able to do some vetting, and they have actually been pretty responsive the two times I have reached out to them with a question.

Your position is well taken, however. Much appreciated.

That said, the Canon Community has been VERY supportive as I get started with the R50.
