Recently got the dreaded err01 with my 24-70ii. (Tested it on another body and got the error, although less often.) Brought it into a local shop and told them my problem. They said that it's probably the ribbon (flex?) cable inside, which tends to wear overtime when you zoom in and out.

The worker/tech told me that they work on 24-70 lenses nearly everyday and that the problem is very common. Saw in another post here a few days ago saying it's a common problem, too.

"Where do you repair 24-70mm 1st version in LA?"

I was not aware of any ribbon cable problems with the 1st version of the 24-70mm f2.8L. However, your lens needs to go in for service to ascertain exactly what the problem is. Make sure you get an estimate before hand.
