Repair 100mm f2.8L Barrel

Good Morning

I have a 100mm f2.8 that has a crack in view lens barrel. I found replacement barrels online and want to make the repair myself. I do have a set of spanner tools. What are your thoughts and instructions or a schematic?

Fixing a broken camera lens yourself can be done, but it’s not recommended – you may end up doing more damage, and you’ll usually need specialist equipment to do the repair properly. The glass elements inside can get misaligned. Remember a lens is a delicate piece of gear with multiple glass elements and moving parts

Ok, ya and it is spendy lens. The crack does not affect the operation at all. I'm guessing sending it to Canon would not be cost effective. I'm looking for a 24-70L and wanted to repair this before I traded or bought the 24-70L. Maybe just with the damage since it is not affecting the operation at all. Thanks for the info...

Agree. Send it to Canon. Get an estimate. Decide if repair or "walk away" is the best option for you. If you get it fixed,, you can also sell or trade it in at KEH, LensRentals, B&H, etc.
