First, I suppose that you mean Canon's EF 40mm 1:2.8 STM,
which is one of my favorite lenses on both 90D and first generation 6D.

On my 6D, closest focus for still images is almost exactly 7 inches (175mm) wide.
Meanwhile, for whatever lens that you already have, you can determine
specific 6D II crop factors between still image, 720p and/or 1080p,
which may differ from those for first generation 6D...
Then, multiply 40mm still image 7 inch (750mm) width by your 6D II video crop factor.

How large that video will be rendered on a monitor depends
entirely on which monitor and video rendering software are employed.

FWIW. my 40mm 1:2.8 STM focuses nearer 20mm than 30mm
by selecting manual focus, cranking the focus ring fully in,
then moving the camera in and out using magnified live view.

One can focus this lens even closer by inserting an EF extension tube.

EF 40mm. 2.8 STM for *minimum distance" video ?

Hi, I have an opportunity to get this lens at a very good price ... I am using a 6d MK II.

I m impressed by this lens' reviews, and sample stills and videos. If you have used for video, I'd appreciate your comments.

What I am trying to visualize is:

0) assuming using a tripod, excellent lighting, and shooting video at 720p video, 60 frames per second, or 1080p at 30 franes per second

1) If I shoot video of a static object at the minimum distance (30 centimeters)

2) what is this going to look like ... apparent size ... on someone's monitor

As a former computer programmer at Adobe, I know all too well the trickiness of trying to estimate apparent size of images/videos on a given monitor ! Sorry for the "loaded question" 🙂

But, if you have any thoughts on this, this would be most appreciated.

I can visualize taking stills at high resolutions, then cropping them to achieve larger size images, but, with video, I am too inexperienced to generalize from that.

thanks, Bill

.
