Yes and no, some can and some cannot work with Canon DSLR cameras being sold today. What is the exact lens model number that you are questioning? Do you have a specific camera model in mind?

I thought the same thing and no they do NOT fit if your camera was similar to the AE-1. They don't came close to fitting. SOme of the digital lenses are different and act different with the body. Not to mention that the sizes are completely different.

It will fit if it is an EF mount lens. It will not fit if it is an FD mount lens. There was an overlap when Canon made both kinds of cameras between 1987 and 1990. Look at the lens. If it is called an EF something (EF 50mm to EF 100mm, etc) it is an EF lens and will mount.

That said the older lenses are unlikely to give image quality you will be happy with.

One more way to look at this is IF it was a lens that would Auto Focus it should fit the EF mount BUT as Scotty said fitting is way different than worth using. Modern lenses are far better than older lenses, both in Image Quality & AF speed etc.

Maybe there are a few exceptions out there, but even still, though.

I used to have what I thought were pretty good lenses, and they were for their time. My favorite had been a Vivitar Series One 70-210mm f/2.8-4. I have version 3 of the lens for Konica, which I think is the collectible one, and was supposedly the best of that breed. I sprung for an adapter, eagerly clicked in place, set it on a tripod, and used LiveView to focus on some flowers.

Wow, was I disappointed. What a difference three decades have made. Nothing being sold today could possibly be that bad. The old Series One makes the 70-300mm lens that came in my Rebel T5 kit look like "L" quality. It wasn't close to sharp, and had pretty noticeable CA. You didn't even need to do any pixel peeping to see the differences, either.
