What camera do you have? 2 months is certainly long enough to deplete the keep alive battery which would need to be recharged when you powered up again. Depending on what model camera you have that is. Did you happen to notice if the time and date were wrong?

Also a long shot but are you sure the battery is still good and took a full charge. It would be nice if you had another battery to try.

Hello to the wise camera people of this time. I bought a canon ef-s 18-135 IS USM last Christman and for the most part the camera and lense have worked perfectly, however, when I got the camera out of the closet recently, the lense was practicaly dead. it doesn't respond to manual focus or autofocus and nothing changed when i cleaned the contyact points with the camera body. If anyone has any ideas on if there is anyway to fix this without sending it to a repair specialist, that would be greatly appreciated.

Autofocus lenses draw their power from the camera battery. Are you sure it was fully charged? If the camera is one with GPS capability, that can run down the battery if you're not very careful with its settings.

I made sure the Canon battery was fully charged and that did not affect the problem. And it sat in my dry upper room closet for probably about 2 months.
