HELP! I have lost all patience with this product scanner. It worked great for the first 3-4 years I had it but all of a sudden the wireless scanning function stopped working. I checked the posts here and people suggested to use a wire connection so I got a cord but that didn't really help. It works maybe 1x out of every 100x I try it. I'm about to just throw the thing in the trash.

I am using a MacBook with macOS Monterey 12.7.6.

The G6020 is compatible with macOS Monterey however Canon support software is for version 12. Scanning usually requires Canon’s scanner software—not just the printer driver. Try this sequence:
1. Restart everything
◦ Turn off the G6020.
◦ Restart the MacBook.
◦ Turn the printer back on.
◦ If using Wi‑Fi, confirm both devices are on the same network—not one on a guest network or VPN.
2. Try macOS’s built-in scanner
◦ Place the document face down on the glass.
◦ Open Applications → Image Capture.
◦ Select Canon G6020 in the left sidebar.
◦ Click Show Details, choose the format and destination, then click Scan.
If the printer appears in Printers & Scanners but not in Image Capture, remove and re-add it:
◦ Apple menu → System Preferences → Printers & Scanners
◦ Select the G6020, click – to remove it.
◦ Click +, select the G6020 again, and add it.
3. Install Canon’s current Mac scan utility Download Canon’s IJ Scan Utility Lite for Mac, selecting macOS 12/Monterey if prompted. Canon lists Monterey as supported, and the utility is intended for scanning photos and documents. Install it, restart the Mac, then open Applications → Canon Utilities → IJ Scan Utility Lite and select the G6020. ph.canon1
4. If the utility says “scanner not found”
◦ In IJ Scan Utility Lite, open Settings or Scanner Selection and manually select the G6020.
◦ For Wi‑Fi scanning, temporarily disable any VPN or third-party firewall.
◦ Restart the printer’s Wi‑Fi connection.
◦ If possible, test with a USB printer cable. If USB scanning works, the issue is network discovery rather than the scanner hardware.
5. Check the connection type
◦ USB: Connect directly to the Mac, not through a hub or dock, and try another USB cable/adapter.
◦ Wi‑Fi: Print a network configuration page from the printer and make sure its IP address is on the same local

network as the Mac.
6. Use the printer’s Scan button correctly Scanning by pressing the printer’s physical SCAN button may not work unless Canon’s scan utility is already installed and running. Start IJ Scan Utility Lite first, then try the button; otherwise initiate the scan from Image Capture or the Canon utility.
The fastest diagnostic is Image Capture over USB. If that works, the scanner is fine and you only need to repair the Canon software or Wi‑Fi setup.
