Order a printer cable, one is almost necessary to troubleshoot and to use a widebody photo printer. A 6ft USB printer cable for this printer is 7.50 from Amazon, which is not much considering the cost of the printer. A 6ft ethernet cable, which would connect your printer to your router ethernet port is 6.99 and also available from Amazon. I have a wide body Canon printer as well. I print and frame large format matted images which are sold in galleries in the town where I live. I do not use wifi, I use a printer USB cable connection.

Until you can obtain a cable you can use this guide to hopefully complete the wifi install of the printer to your pc. It uses a different program than the IJ utility, and seems to be more successful to get a wifi connection to work.

Hello,

I just bought a Canon Pixma IX6850 and can't get it to work.

The printer itself is set up, testprint done, and wifi connected and working! (solid blue light and found by wifi on windows)

Windows finds it in "add printer" but when I add it, it just says "driver not available". Installing the official software package (win-ix6800-1_2-n_mcd) doesn't do anything and trying to install just the drivers directly (xp68-win-ix6800-6_00d-ea33_3) just tells me that no IJ-printer is installed correctly.

What do I have to do? I can't connect by USB or Ethernet as I don't have the cables for that.

I hope there is a solution and I don't have to ship it back...

BR

I had a similar issue with Canon printers where Windows detected the printer but failed to load the correct driver. Try removing the printer completely from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, then restart the PC and install the Canon driver package first run it as Administrator before adding the printer through Windows.

Also check that you downloaded the driver for your exact Windows version. If the installer still doesn't detect it, try adding it manually using Add printer >The printer that I want isn’t listed > Add using TCP/IP address and use the printer’s IP address from your router/printer settings. Wi-Fi setup can work fine while the automatic driver detection fails.

By pure luck I was able to solve it an hour later. The culprit was „Teracopy“. It somehow interfered with the Canon Software Install. Disabling it for the time fixed the issue.

Thanks for the contributions.
