topic TS7720 Message: There is no paper in the [bottom] cassette. But I want to print from the back tray! in Desktop Inkjet Printers

I'm using the Canon Pixma TS7720 with Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon. Normally I can print with paper from the rear (vertical) tray but for some reason today I can't. I haven't changed any settings.

I looked at the printer settings and everything is OK to print from the rear tray. Yes, there is paper in the rear tray. I deliberately removed paper from the bottom cassette tray thinking that this would force the printer to pull from the rear but instead I hear the grears grinding, looking for paper in the bottom cassette tray and then get the above message.

Any ideas?

This issue has been reported by other Mint Users.

You may have already tried one of more of these steps to try and resolve it. I suggest you reboot both printer and pc before taking any other steps.

To configure the Canon PIXMA TS7720 for rear tray printing in Linux Mint 22, you can use the CUPS web interface by navigating to
http://localhost:631/printers/
, selecting your printer, and adjusting the InputSlot option to Rear. After making changes, ensure to restart the CUPS service for the settings to take effect.

Troubleshooting Canon PIXMA TS7720 Printing Issues on Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon

If your Canon PIXMA TS7720 is not printing from the rear tray while using Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon, follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Check Printer Recognition

Ensure that the printer is properly recognized by your system.

You may need to install the foomatic-db package, which is essential for many printers to function correctly on Linux.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

Remove Existing Drivers: Uninstall any current printer drivers.

Reinstall Drivers: Download and install the latest drivers for the Canon PIXMA TS7720.

Reboot the System: Restart your computer to apply changes.

Additional Steps

Power Cycle the Printer: Unplug the printer from power, wait for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in.

Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the rear tray is selected as the paper source in the printer settings.
