I'm using an iMac on Sonoma 14.5 and am connected to the printer wirelessly. It's connected to my WiFi.

No problems in 2 years but suddenly, today, when I try to print, the printer is "offline." I can still access the scanning capabilities and everything about the printer appears to be functioning properly. I've tried powering off a few times but can't get it to print. Help would be appreciated!

This is a very common issue on Mac OS Sonoma and almost always caused by one of two things — either the printer's IP address changed after a router restart or Mac OS Sonoma updated and reset some printer settings in the background.

Try this fix first — go to System Settings then Printers and Scanners. Delete your Canon printer completely by clicking the minus button. Then click the plus button to add it back fresh. Mac OS will rediscover it on your network and re-establish the connection. This fixes the offline issue in most cases.

If that does not work the IP address has likely changed. On your Canon printer panel go to Settings then LAN Settings then Confirm LAN Settings and note the current IP address. Then on your Mac go to System Settings then Printers and Scanners, click on your printer and check if the address shown matches. If they do not match delete and re-add the printer as above.

The permanent fix to prevent this happening again is to log into your router admin panel and create a DHCP reservation for your Canon printer using its MAC address. This assigns a permanent fixed IP address so the printer never goes offline after router restarts.

The fact that scanning still works confirms this is purely a network communication issue not a hardware problem — your printer is perfectly fine. Full setup and troubleshooting steps at [Link Removed per Community Guidelines] if you need more detailed steps for your specific Canon model.
