MX340 has been sitting 6 months with new ink since old PC slowed and was replaced and I was on a "vacation". It has been perfectly fine/working for all these years with a saved driver for the Win XP.
Now I have a
ACER Aspire Go 15>win 11 home>version 25H2>Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.297.0

11>13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1334U (1.30 GHz)

64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

932 GB

graphics 128MB

RAM 16GB

With USB to PC plugged in:

"No app to open printer troubleshooter"

Display screen on printer says connected but rectangular pop-up named Canon MX340 Series Printer USB 001 says the printer is offline check the cable's connected and the printer power is on. Printer power is on after disconnecting and connecting. Wi-fi light is steady, not blinking

Error 5200 in printer display.
Pop up on PC:
"printer PC doesn't have an app that can open troubleshooter link"
Working with AI for too many hours ( so you know all the "duh" checks have been done).
AI says the solution is to put in a color ink cart. I have not used a color ink cart for 10 + years. That hasn't ever been a problem.

My blind wanderings:
Settings- Privacy and Security -Windows Security -Firewall and Network Protection> Allow an app through the firewall: What should be checked/unchecked to allow my printer access and setup in Windows 11 on April 2026?

Wireless Portable devices was not checked so I clicked change settings icon and clicked it. A window opened that said add an app so went to Downloads and clicked on the 4-13- 26 driver for MX340.

"printer PC doesn't have an app that can open troubleshooter link"

Try looking for compatible app in Microsoft Store" Open the Microsoft Store from taskbar or Start menu search Get help if not installed click Get or Install. If already installed click Library in the bottom left of the store and select Get Updates to ensure its current.

NOT DONE: To re register windows apps via Powershell 3 restart your computer and try running the troubleshooter again Or repair system files Printer

Done on 4-14-26:
To fix printer connection issues in Windows "Turn Windows features on or off," ensure
1-Print and Document Services is enabled, specifically
2-LPD Print Service and
3-LPR Port Monitor.
4- Internet Printing Client

I need help because my "eco conscience" will not allow me to trash 10 lbs. of plastic when I believe there could still be a way to fix this problem by the experience of a forum ace.

Thank you for your time

5200 error is a cartridge error, there is no doubt about that. One is low, faulty installation, or missing. If it is throwing this because of no color cartridges try this:

Steps to Set Grayscale Mode

Open Print Settings

Access the print dialog from the application you are using (e.g., Word, PDF viewer).

Select Printer Properties

Click on "Printer Properties" or "Preferences" in the print dialog.

Change Color Settings

Look for the option labeled "Color" or "Print in Color."

Select "Grayscale" or "Black and White" from the dropdown menu.

Confirm and Print

Click "OK" to save the changes.

Proceed to print your document.

I hope you get this(I was banned on this site so you probably didn't see my solution.): After cleaning the ink cart, it made no improvement. But I think it was 1/2 of the problem. I was at the point of grasping at straws.
The one I grabbed had a can of WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner on the other end. I took out the ink and I didn't scrimp on using the spray. I waited about 30 minutes and tried to print a mailing label. It didn't work the first time, and I felt despair. Then I did the "specific reset sequence" one more time. Ever since then my old plastic "tank" has been running like a champ! I hope you can pass this on to others with the same problem. That would make me a Cannon Promoter (by proxy) of a "different color". End of the final Post:

"Oh yeah I almost forgot to tell you: my printer is working like new again after I sprayed it with Tuner cleaner as the last resort.
I attempted to share my experience at Cannon Community Forum and shortly after answering people with the error 5200 I got:
"Canon Community You are not allowed to access this site
We're sorry, but you have been banned from using this site."
Gee; I wonder why? 😉
