Any changes or problems before this started, new cartridges? Paper jam?

Possible Causes for Alignment Issues

If the alignment issue on your Canon TR4520 persists despite attempting print head alignment, consider the following potential causes:

Worn-Out or Damaged Print Head

A worn-out or damaged print head can lead to persistent alignment problems. If cleaning and alignment do not resolve the issue, replacement may be necessary.

Non-Genuine Ink Cartridges

Using non-genuine ink cartridges can also contribute to alignment issues. These cartridges may not fit properly or provide the correct ink flow, affecting print quality.

Steps to Address the Issue

If you suspect that the print head is damaged or that you're using non-genuine cartridges, follow these steps:

Inspect the Print Head: Check for any visible damage or wear.

Replace the Print Head: If damaged, consider purchasing a new print head compatible with the TR4520.

Use Genuine Cartridges: Switch to genuine Canon ink cartridges to ensure proper functionality and alignment.

Conclusion

Persistent alignment issues on your Canon TR4520 may indicate a need for a new print head or the use of genuine ink cartridges. Addressing these factors can help restore print quality.

My TR4520 has a weird alignment problem where it prints part of a page normally, then offsets to the right making text unreadable. I did all the usual things without success. Any ideas?

Thanks Derrick. The printer started generating a consistent error code indicating repair was needed. I could not clear it so I used a different printer for a few months then I tried the 4520 again and it worked with no errors for a week or so until this problem started.

This may be an encoder strip problem which looks a lot like a misaligned print head.

Cleaning the Encoder Strip on Canon Pixma TR4620

To maintain optimal print quality, it's important to clean the encoder strip on your Canon Pixma TR4620 printer. Follow these steps for effective cleaning.

Steps to Clean the Encoder Strip

Open the Printer Cover

This will allow you to access the internal components of the printer.

Locate the Encoder Strip

The encoder strip is a thin, clear plastic strip located behind the print head.

Prepare Cleaning Materials

Use a soft, lint-free cloth.

Lightly moisten the cloth with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.

Gently Clean the Strip

Carefully wipe the encoder strip with the moistened cloth.

Avoid applying too much pressure to prevent scratching or bending the strip.

Tips for Maintenance

Regular Cleaning: Clean the encoder strip periodically to prevent print head misalignment and streaky prints.

Handle with Care: Be gentle during the cleaning process to avoid damaging the strip, which could affect printer performance.
