topic PIXMA MG3600 Series: Password needed for print head alignment, broken hinge in Desktop Inkjet Printers

I tried to run a print head alignment, but it asked for a password on my own printer, which makes no sense. I don’t have one, and nothing on the printer works. While checking for a password on the printer the cheap plastic hinge cracked. It’s an MG3600. I couldn’t find real Canon support anywhere, had to register to this forum, then verify my email. This has been incredibly frustrating, and I won’t buy Canon again.i still haven't been able to align my print head and it prints blurry. Zero support. Total nightmare, I'm about to have a stroke from all the stress trying to get an alignment that should NOT require a password. I tried the serial number, failed, i tried 'canon' failed. I'm about to throw this piece of junk away! Why would you need a password to align the head!? On your own printer???

Confirming that you are using the nine digit serial number?

Can you post a screenshot of the window asking for the serial number?

It's likely asking for the administrator password. If you set yourself up as the administrator on the machine, it would have setup a password for you.

Hi, Tianlong.

Welcome to the Canon Community. I'm sorry you're having a hard time with your printer. Some helpful information for you: MG300 is the printer's model line - yours has a specific model number based on your geographic region. Here in the USA, it would be the PIXMA MG3620. It sounds like you might not have the Canon software installed. You can get it from https://ij.start.canon/MG3620 - follow the prompts and the correct software will be installed, which includes all of the maintenance functions for your printer.

Regarding support: All of your support options can be found within your Canon Account at https://canon.us/account
You do need to register to speak with someone from support. Live (real-time) support is free while you're within the original warranty period. Outside the warranty period, you have the option to pay for live support, or take advantage of self-support options like this Community Forum, the online manual at https://canon.us/mg3620-manual, our site https://canon.us/mg3620 and your Canon Account.

I have an MG3620 installed on Windows 11 Pro, I have never been asked for a password. All drivers and software programs are found here:
