topic PIXMA TR8620a Unable to scan on macOS 15 in Desktop Inkjet Printers

I just replaced my Canon TS6000 with a TR8620a. The reason for the replacement was the scanning feature just stopped and could no longer find my TS6000 to scan. However, I'm having the same issue with new TR8520a. In addition, the only way I could add my printer was through airprint, not bonjour. When trying to use bonjour, it couldn't autoselect a driver, and when trying to select software, the TS6000 was available along with other non Canon products. Could airprint be the reason why I can't scan?

I installed Canon Print, but that doesn't give me any other functions (scan or copy), just print. When I install Canon IJ Scan Utility Lite, the selected scanner is TS6000 (my old scanner) and I can't select TR8620a.

Any help to get me scanning would be appreciated!

Hi nik1420,

Please open Image Capture on your Mac. Are you able to select your PIXMA TR8600 series?

If so , are you able to scan? If you are not able to scan, does an error appear? What is the error?

Also, please install Canon PRINT on your phone. Once installed, please open that app and tap Scan.

Are you able to scan using your mobile device?

I'm experiencing the same problem. Disappointed after replacing my previous Canon with the Pixma 8620a and now find I cannot scan. I've had extended tech support with both Canon and Apple. It appears the issue is in Canon software. And when Canon told me when I try scanning with a USB cable connection to the printer, it's likely the connection which of course requires a convertor to fit the Apple ports. How to explain this? Nothing to select when open I open Image Capture. Can you please provide a reasonable solution?

Hi Judyu!

Thanks for contributing to the Canon Community. I see that you are unable to scan to your Mac computer.

If you prefer to connect the printer to your computer with a cable, we recommend using a cable that has the proper fittings at both ends. Communication problems can occur if you try to use an external USB hub or adapter. It is likely that your computer will not see the scanner through the USB connection if you use either of them. The cable must be connected directly to the USB port on your computer (without an adapter).

If your computer has an oval-shaped USB-C port, you will need a cable that has an oval-shaped USB-C connector on one end (for your computer) and a square-shaped USB-B connector on the other end (for the square USB port on the back of the printer). The USB-C to USB-B cable comes in different lengths. We recommend that the length of the cable be no longer than 6 feet (maximum length).

Once you connect the printer to your computer with the proper cable, the Image Capture program on your computer should recognize the scanner and allow you to scan. You might need to restart your computer with the cable connected and the printer turned on if the program doesn't immediately see the connection.

You should also be able to scan using the IJ Scan Utility Lite that Canon offers on the website for your printer. Here is that link:
https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-tr8620a

If you want to install it, please go to that page. Then, click on the Software & Drivers symbol to the right of the picture of your printer. After that, please make sure that the correct Operating System and Version is selected under the Downloads section.

You can click on the "Download" button to the right of the IJ Scan Utility Lite program on that website. When it has finished downloading, please open the file and double-click on the symbol that looks like a cardboard box. After that, you can follow the onscreen instructions to finish installing that program.

Once installed, you will find the IJ Scan Utility Lite in your computer's Applications folder. It may be inside a file called "Canon Utilities." The following section of the manual has information about using the IJ Scan Utility Lite on a Mac computer:
https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/ScanUtilityLite/M/3.3/EN/SUL/sul_scan01_m.html

If you are still having trouble with scanning over a USB connection, please write back and let us know if you would like to try setting up a wireless connection instead.

I hope this helps. Thanks again.

It is some sort of incompatibility between Apple and Canon software tools.

I have MacBook Air M2 Tahoe macOS 26.3.

I can scan using VueScan on my Mac. I have a remote connection to my W10 machine and I can scan from PC. I can scan using Image Capture on the Mac, but IJ ScanUtility issues an error.
