@DerrickL First of all, thank you for trying to help me.
But I don't think that you read or understand my issue at all. The Print Head Carriage is STUCK to the FAR RIGHT of the printer and doesn't move at all when you open the Scanner/Case.

All of the Support Code 1470 links you posted refer to "just open the case, let the carriage move to the center, and replace the Print Head....." <--- I know how to do this as I have owned this printer >10 months.

• NONE of the support links give any info when the Print Head Carriage is stuck
• i have searched the Community Forum and haven't found a solution

It could be that that the printer is not sensing the lid is open or something worse. Maybe this will help you, however it is not a simple fix.

Hello nemesis55, I'm happy to jump in here and help you with your new PIXMA G4280! 👋

It sounds frustrating to get a replacement unit only to have it refuse to set up, but let's see if we can get this fixed quickly.

💡 The Likely Fix: Print Head Installation

The good news is that the error you're seeing—Support Code 1470—is actually a signal that the print heads are not fully locked into place.

Unlike some older printers, the PIXMA G-Series printers (MegaTank) do not come with the print heads pre-installed. You have to put them in yourself during the initial setup.

When the print head carriage won't move to the center when you open the cover, that's the printer's way of saying, "Hold on! I can't start because these critical parts aren't installed or secured yet." We just need to make sure those print heads are seated perfectly!

📝 TL;DR Walkthrough: Reseating the Print Heads

Here is a super simple version of the fix. This should clear the 1470 error and let the setup process proceed.

Open the Cover: With the printer powered on, open the scanning unit/cover (the top lid).

Inspect and Secure: Look at the print head holder inside. You should see the two print heads (Black and Color).

Lock Them Down:

Push the clear/colored print head locking cover down firmly until you hear an obvious click. This ensures the heads are seated properly.

Push the two joint buttons (usually next to the carriage) down firmly until they click as well.

Close the Cover: Close the scanning unit/cover and let the printer try to initialize.

📣 Important Tidbit to Check!

When you install or reseat the print heads, make sure you've removed all of the protective orange tape and seals from the metallic contacts and nozzles on the print heads themselves! If even a tiny piece is left on the contacts, it will prevent the printer from communicating with the head and will throw the error.

The complete, official, step-by-step walkthrough with diagrams is available on the Canon USA Support site here:

[Canon Knowledge Base: Replace a Print Head - G4280]

If you try the steps above and the error code 1470 remains, or the carriage still won't move after you've clicked everything into place, then it sounds like a hardware issue with the replacement unit itself. In that case, the fastest next step is to call Canon Technical Support at 1-800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666), weekdays from 9am to 6pm (ET).

@Stephen
Sorry to be blunt......but:
1) I understand what the Support Code 1470 says
2) that I need to install the 2 Printer Heads (without the orange tape) and click them into place

--> But I can't do anything to get to the Printer Heads, they are locked UNDER a PLASTIC SHELF.
THIS IS A CATCH-22 SITUATION.........PLs STOP TELLING ME TO INSTALL PRINTER HEADS.
.......sorry, but I'm very frustrated and not very happy at the moment. (not at you, BTW)
And I have tried many times to get the carriage out from under that shelf.
At this point, I want a NEW PRINTER as I don't trust this one i have that was sent to me.

Removing the Print Head Cover for PIXMA G4280

Steps to Remove the Print Head Cover

Power Off the Printer
Ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged for safety.

Open the Front Cover
Gently pull open the front cover of the printer to access the print head area.

Remove the Ink Tanks
Carefully take out the ink tanks from their slots. This will provide better access to the print head.

Locate the Print Head Cover
Identify the print head cover, which is usually located above the ink tank slots.

Update: I made another call to the Canon Warranty department and they said there is nothing I can do from my end (there is no latch to manually release the Printer Head Carriage)
They are sending me a new Pixma G4280 (my Third! ☺️)...........wish me luck.

PS: I do appreciate the attempts to help by others in this thread. (pls ignore my frustration)
