OK. So, for anyone else having a similar problem, I just replaced the Ubinki cartridges with Canon cartridegs, and the error cleared. The printer is printing. So far so good. Stay away from the Ubinki would be my advice.

Maybe the moderator can put that in his memory banks so that he can at least make that suggestion if anyone else reports a problem similar to mine (no matter what model printer they're using).

I recently installed a new color and a new black cartridge (240XL and 241 XL). The printer worked fine afterwards for a couple of days but today I’m getting an E05 error. I’ve tried reinstalling, unplugging the printer, and cleaning the cartridges but can’t get rid of the error. I’m about to buy 2 new cartridges but am wondering if there’s anything else I can try. I’m puzzled because the printer did work right after I replaced the cartridges.

It's a Canon PIXMA, MG 3120 model, that uses 240 and 241 ink cartridges. My question is why, after some use with new cartridges , am I suddenly getting an E05 error that I can't clear, even after I reseated the cartridges numerous times and powered the Printer down by unplugging power, and cleaned the cartridges with soft dampened tissue paper. They are not Canon cartridges. Amazon specifies they are made by Ubinki, compatible with my printer. The error code lights almost immediately when I depress the ON button. The number 1 shows for about 2 seconds.

Thanks for posting!

While our Forum Community members are welcome to chime in, the Canon PIXMA MG3120 has been retired. That means we do not offer support for the printer or updated drivers. We recommend updating to a more modern printer and reaching out to our Canon Upgrade Program specialist who will go over the best options for upgrading your printer. They can be reached at 866-443-8002.

2 months later and the Canon cartridges are doing fine. BEWARE the Ubinki cartridges. By the way, no problem getting money back from Amazon for the Ubinkis.
