Hi digging4roots,

Reinstalling should resolve this issue. Please turn your PIXMA G7020 off and disconnect the USB cable and then follow these steps:

1. On your Windows 10 computer, please press the Windows key on your keyboard and the letter R, then let both go.

2. In the Run window that appears, please type CONTROL and click OK.

3. In Control Panel, click on "View devices and printers".

4. Right click the Canon G7000 series and then left click on Remove device.

5. Repeat until all G7000's have been removed from the Printers window.

6. Close the Printers window once complete.

7. Turn your computer off. Once off, please turn it back on.

Next, we will download the latest driver:

1. Please click this link: Canon Support for PIXMA G7020 - Downloads

2. Click on Software & Drivers.

3. Choose "Windows" from the Operating System drop down and then "Windows 10" from the Version drop down.

4. Click the Download button to the right of "Print Driver and Scan Utility Installer Ver.1.00 (Windows)". Note: you may have to click the "Load More" button to locate this.

5. Once that file finishes, please open or run that file to begin the installation on your computer. If you have to search for the file first, the files name is: "md__-win-g7000-1_00-ea34_2.exe"

6. Follow the on screen prompts to reinstall. Please do not turn your printer back on and reconnect the cable until the installation prompts you to.

Once reinstalled, please attempt to scan with the IJ Scan Utility. If successful, please attempt to scan directly from your PIXMA G7020.

Did this answer your question? If so, please click the Accept as Solution button below so that others may find the answer as well.

I have a desktop Windows 10 PC. Until very recently I have been able to scan at the printer and send it to my computer desktop. For some strange reason, the printer is now telling me it's not connected to a computer.

I have the downloaded user guide, but I must be too old to figure it out because I can't find what it is I'm supposed to do to fix this problem.

Meanwhile, I can use the scan function from the printer interface on my desktop. In other words, I go to Devices and Printers -> right click on printer and select OPEN. In the Tools tab, I can select Scanner Management -> Scan Photos or Documents and no problems. The page is scanned and saved to my computer.

I can also use the Canon IJ Scan Utility application with no problems.

I can print to the same printer from my desktop with no problems as well.

What I can not do is load a document onto the scanner bed or into the feeder and direct the printer to scan and send to my desktop.

Thank you to anyone who can direct this old lady to some solution.

I had the same problem (except I'm using Windows 11) and the same behavior since the last firmware update of the printer (Canon Pixma G7020). Printing and scanning from my computer worked, but not scanning from the printer. When I tried it said "Computer not connected". My printer is on Wi-Fi but my computer is hard-wired to that same router. That's worked fine until the last printer firmware update. The previously installed and previously working (until I removed it per your instructions) Canon PRINT app on my computer can no longer find the printer.

I followed your instructions, and now it's even more broken because the reinstall can't find the printer. I even tried connecting by IP address (192.168.1.45) and it doesn't work even though I can browse to that internal IP address and see printer settings still so my computer can access the printer on my network.
