I know this is an old thread, but I never thought about checking out the actual canon site to help resolve my issues. I too have an MX 922 which is causing blurry images or actually big voids in the printing. I went as far as searching out with some local repair shops, and I attempted to clean the encoder strip, Replace the encoder , clean the print heads and finally replaced the print heads. None of these steps resolved anything other than lightening my bank account. Joke.

this is something I’ve actually been working on for a couple years and I’ve gone as far as stripping the unit down and cleaning it from its frame all the way to the lid to make sure I was not overlooking anything. I’m not sure if there’s something that can be done for my situation as well but I use the MX 922 to print credit card style gift cards for my business. My printing quality was fantastic and then suddenly it was not. I hope someone sees this from Canon support and might be able to offer some assistance.

Hi, I love my Mx922, except when it started printing blurry double text (as detailed by many people ad-naseum all over the internet). The Mx922 is now discontinued - what is the replacement model?

I need Black and White printing, ADF with support for legal size scanning/ duplex scanning, duplex printing. I do not want a worse quality scanner.

Anyone out there find something they like?

Thanks

Hi Gofo5566,

Blurry printing/double printing can be resolved by cleaning the timing strip/encoder. To clean the encoder/timing strip of your PIXMA MX922, please follow the steps outlined in the following Knowledgebase Article available from our web site:

https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART142447

If the issue persists, clean the encoder again.

If you are still experiencing poor printing, your PIXMA MX922 would require service. You are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.

To help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free standard shipping (if the order is completed by 12:30PM ET). If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002. They're available weekdays and Saturdays after 9 AM ET (6 AM PT). Let them know you have been working with technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.

The current models that are most similar are the PIXMA TR8520 and the PIXMA TR8620.

Thank you Patrick. It seems like the PIXMA TR8520 and the PIXMA TR8620 have lower print and scan resolution. Is that correct?

The MX922 has 9600 x 2400 maximum color dpi and 600 x 600 black dpi printing along with Optical: 2400x4800 dpi scan.

The TR8620 has Up to 4800 x 1200 dpi print and 1200 x 2400 dpi (Optical) scan.

Edit: I also see that the TR8620 does not have duplex scan, which is very important to me.

Seems like the 922 is a lot better - no? Is there a higher performance Canon printer/ scanner you would recommend?

Hi Gofo5566,

The PIXMA TR8520 was the replacement for the PIXMA MX922 and the PIXMA TR8620 is the newer version of the PIXMA TR8520. The PIXMA TR8620 is what I would recommend.
