Solution Found!

I happened to see elsewhere online a suggestion about the need to enter the 'full' name for the printer. It's a shame that the Canon registration did not simply show that full name in the search results list when I entered just 'G50520'. It turns out that it was necessary to search for the entire text below.

MegaTank PIXMA G5020 Wireless Inkjet Printer

Using the description above allowed me to complete the registration!

It's good to have this done finally, but I sure wish it had been easier. In all the years that I have registered the serial numbers of various products (from other manufacturers) there has NEVER been similar difficulty. I think the Canon search engine needs improvement.

I am new to the forum and am replying to myself since the 'post' was just the headline

I have repeatedly tried to register my new Pixma G5020, but the Canon registration website does NOT list this model. I tried using a close match (TS5020), entered my serial number and uploaded the sales receipt. The result was that the serial # was ineligible fo registration.

In an old thread in the forum I read that a Canon moderator thought a similar registration problem was due to a new batch of serial numbers not yet loaded into their system.

I tried to get help through the My Canon account: however, since the new printer isn't registered, it was not possible to get past the virtual assistant.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm out of luck for now...
