Just discovered that Windows 11 actually has a built in legacy OS emulation feature. Chose settings on the driver installation-file, click the tab "Compatibility" and choose an older Windows version (in my case Win8 since the list for some strange reason didn't reach to Win10...). Press OK and run the driver exe file, which now pretends to install the drivers in a Win8 OS. My Canon MG7150 now works perfectly together with my new Win11 desktop!

I own a Pixma MG7120 printer that worked perfectly with my old PC under Windows 10. The problem is the old PC died, and I am trying to get the printer to run with a new laptop under Windows 11. Canon driver support has expired for model MG7120 (so no Windows 11 drivers.) Under Printers & Scanners in Settings, it says “MG7100 Series driver is unavailable.”

With the printer connected to the laptop, I tried downloading the latest drivers from Canon: MG7100 series MP Drivers Ver. 1.01 (file: mp68-win-mg7100-1_01-ejs.exe) and ran the executable. However, I got this result from the MP Driver setup program: “Cannot detect the printer.”

Is my wonderful printer really unable to function with a new laptop under Windows 11?

Can someone help me?

The above message was posted 1/6-23.

Update. This problem was resolved by removing any reference to the MG7120 from the laptop and then installing the Windows 10 drivers.

The details are as follows: Disconnected the Pixma MG7120 from the Windows 11 laptop. On the laptop, in Settings, under Printers & Scanners, clicked the item “MG7100 Series”. On the next screen, it listed “Canon IJ Scanner/ printer status: idle”; clicked the Remove button. Now the references to the printer on this page and on the previous page are gone. With the printer still not connected to the laptop, I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 10 (x64) from Canon: MG7100 series Full Drivers & Software Package (Windows 10/10 x64/ … XP) date 07.22.15 (file: win-mg7100-1_1-ucd.exe) and ran the executable. When requested by the Setup, the printer was connected (by USB) to the laptop and turned on. The Setup continued, and the installation completed successfully! The MG7120 now works perfectly!

Welcome to the forum!

While our Forum Community members are welcome to chime in, the PIXMA MG7120 has been retired. That means we no longer offer support for the printer or updated drivers.

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you locate an updated replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Honestly, I don't care if customer care support is not offered for retired products. What I find absolutely unacceptable is that after "retirement", my printer doesn't offer the same features it used to. There's literally only one reason why a company would discontinue allowing features like scan to email or introduce bugs that force users to select the Photo option from the Media type: to make us buy new printers. It's a despicable way to conduct business, and I'm extremely disappointed in Canon for conducting shady business practices. Just goes to show that Canon is run by greedy corporate jerks.

I successfully installed the printer driver on Win11 as noted above using the built-in legacy OS emulation feature. Thank you for posting this fix.

How do you do this in Windows 11? I downloaded the Windows 10 drivers as there are no Windows drivers for the 7120, the printer works but I can not get the scanner to work. It all worked fine until I upgraded to 11.
