topic Brand New Pixma TR4520 printing problem solved! Ink cartridge that came with printer was dried up. in Desktop Inkjet Printers

I replaced my TR4520 with a new version. Would not print docs or pdfs, but did print excellent color jpgs. Printer arrived on Saturday and Canon support was closed for the weekend. I tried everything I found on the internet; reinstalling twice. On Monday, called Canon support and after checking a few things, 'Joe', said to take out the BLACK ink cartridge [which came with the printer] and wipe the bottom with a paper towel. There was NO ink! Fortunately, I had another ink cartridge on hand and that, of course, completely solved the problem.

I never found any reference to do this simple thing. I had done a nozzle check previously [which Joe had me do also] but as I didn't have template to see what the print-out was supposed to look like, I didn't know that it should have showed me the Black ink as well as the color. Anyway, I am posting this in the hope it might save another person some time and worry.
