PIXMA G7020 insists on using rear feed

We have had our G7020 for two years with no problems. Suddenly we are getting a 1270 code (put paper in rear tray) even though we never use it. If we put paper in the tray, it says there's no paper (code 1000). This is absolutely infuriating. The error is also inconsistent.

Here are our attempts at corrective action:
1) Verify rear feed cover slot is closed and that rear paper feed tray is closed

2) Attempt to set paper feed to "cassette only" since we never use the rear feed

3) Update firmware

4) Factory reset printer

No attempts have resolved this issue. If we close the rear slot/tray, we get a subsequent error that there is no paper in the rear tray.

We are literally stuck in the printer twilight zone. My wife needs to print daily and is pretty furious right now. Told me to put this thing on the curb and get an Epson. I'd rather see if anyone here can recommend a fix first.

Hi jdmorton,

Please try setting the rear feed to a paper size that you would not be using.

Please follow these steps:

1. Please press the wrench and screwdriver button on your G7020 one time.

2. Press the right arrow 3 times to select Feed settings and press OK.

3. Press OK on Save paper info.

4. Press OK on Rear tray.

5. Press OK again.

6. Use the left arrow to select A4 and press OK two times.

Once set, please attempt to print.

The feed cover slot was confusing. The following video shows where it is, and that solved our problem.
