Op system is El Capitan 10.11.6 and was working till a week ago . . is my os now not compatible

It's not said what OS you're using. Win10 updates regularly knock my TR7022a offline. Each time, I have to redownload the driver for it. Delete driver first in Control Panel > Programs and Features.

I don't know if your driver is on a CD or not. If it is, just reuse the CD. If you download, use a search term in Google like "Canon printer MG 2525 download driver" and you'll see links to Canon site to download driver. You might want to save the page in bookmarks and case of future updates knocking printer offline. I decided to make it easy.
