Image Scanner slow on PIXMA MX532

Canon Pixma MX532, iMac 2023 (wifi connection), Sonoma 14.6.1

Image Capture IJ Scan Utility Ver.2.4.1

I have anew iMac with current printer drivers. Scanning a document at 400 dpi color takes 3 minutes per page.

Scanning on my old Mac took less than 20 seconds.

What can I do to make scanning faster?

Hi SHutton,

Please click on the Apple in the upper left corner and then System Settings.

In System Settings, scroll to the bottom of the left side and click on Printers & Scanners.

On the right side, click one time on the PIXMA MX530 series that appears.

In the new window, what is listed to the right of "Kind"?

Are you using your PIXMA MX532 wirelessly?
or with a USB cable?

To respond to your questions I have to run AirPrint because my new iMac does not have a USB connection support.

Hi SHutton,

Instead of using Airprint, please download and install the printer and scanner drivers.

Once installed, then please download and install the IJ Scan Utility and then use that application to perform your scanning.

To access the downloads page for your PIXMA MX532, please use this link:

On that page, click the Software & Drivers box.

Choose Mac from the Operating System drop down and macOS Sonoma v14 from the Version drop down.

In the list that appears, please scroll down and click the Download button to the right of:

MX530 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver.16.80.0.0 (Mac)
ICA Driver Ver. 5.0.0 (Mac)
IJ Scan Utility2 Ver.2.4.1 (Mac)

Once they have all downloaded, please install them one at a time, in the order listed above.

Next, install the printer and scanner:

1. Click on the Apple in the upper left corner and then System Settings.

2. Scroll down to the bottom of the left side and click on Printers & Scanners.

3. On the right side, click on the MX530 series and in the new window, click the Remove Printer button.

4. Repeat until all MX530's are gone.

5. Click the Add Printer, Scanner or Fax button.

6. In the Add Printer window, you will now see two MX530's, one Bonjour and one Canon IJ Network. Click on the IJ Network listing. Make sure that MX530 is listed in the "Use" box at the bottom and then click Add.

After it is installed, please open the IJ Scan Utility and attempt to scan.
