PIXMA TR4270 Functional Earth connection

If my printer is connected to my laptop via the USB printer cable, do I still need to use the functional earth connection cable? I have no spare outlets to use.

Hi Laura99,

In regards to using a functional earthing connection cable, If the product is connected to a computer by USB cable, and the computer is connected using a 3-prong power cord (which is grounded), a functional earthing connection cable is not necessary, since the product is connected to the ground through the USB cable.

Do you mean TR4720? I don't see a TR4270 when I google it.

According to this bulletin from Canon Canada, the functional earth connection is only an issue when using the printer's fax function.
