PIXMA TS3522 Cartridge installation problems

I just purchased a new TS3522 printer. I am trying to install the cartridges but keep getting and E 0 4 which translated seems mean I am not installing it properly.

Then it says I might not have removed the protective film. How much of that film needs to be removed. I am86 and have been installing printers since my first Apple II e computer. What am I doing wrong. I need a printer TODAY. Any help really appreciated.
