Successfully installed the Windows 8.1 (x64) driver for the MX860 in Windows 11.

Works perfectly directly connected and via Ethernet LAN.

I'd wager the same approach will work for Win 10/11 and other Canon support retired PIXMA MX series printers.

The MX860 has been a real home office workhorse. Discontinuing support is shortsighted and only encourages customers to needlessly consider other manufacturers' home office options.

Did you have to do anything special? I tried the 8.1 (x64) driver download, but at the end it couldn't detect the printer. Sat there for a while but then timed out and never connected. This was over USB using the stand-alone driver I found on Canon's site.

I experienced the same thing but then considered that the driver app is older so ran it in compatibility mode and the printer was then discovered.
