Display backlight on PIXMA TR4723

My Canon TR 4723 desktop inkjet printer just arrived today. When powered up, the LED screen on top is not lit up or backlighted. Consequently, it is very hard to read without a flashlight. I can't believe that Canon would have not incorporated a light. I have searched through all the online manual, directions, etc. and cannot find a reference to it. Any help out there? Thanks for your help.

I had a similar printer. The display is LCD only and not backlit. Many think backlighting it would be nice though.
