I installed a USB WITH A CONVERTER cable in the back of my printer. I selected on the printer to scan with local usb scan on the printer menu but when I press color I get an error msg that says no computer connected. How to I get the printer to manually scan to a USB attached in the back? Thank you for your help. I am a Mac and iOS user and have no trouble printing wirelessly or copying.

My phone runs iOS 17.2.1 but I am not using my phone or any app to scan. I am doing it by pressing the buttons on the printer.

I believe the port on the back of the printer is a USB – B port. So the connector connects that port to my USB – C thumb drive.

You're going about this wrong. That USB-B port on the printer is where you connect a COMPUTER, not a thumb drive. It's the input location for data from the computer, not an output to a storage device.

The printer has to have a USB port for plugging a thumb drive into. Does it? Typically it's a USB -A port. If it does, then I suppose you could use an A-to-C adapter, if there is such a thing. If not, you can't scan to a thumb drive, only to a computer.

You're getting the "no computer connected" message for an obvious reason. Are you using wireless to print from computer to printer?

Also, if you set the printer to use WiFi to connect to your computer, the USB-B port is likely deactivated.
