I just replaced my old worn-out Pixma MG 3620 printer with a new one. It's connected directly by USB to my Windows XP desktop, mainly used for scanning, and in my WiFi network for access from my laptop and other family members' devices. I connected the new printer the same as the old one and had a bit of trouble getting it on my WiFi, but finally managed by using the USB connection. Everything worked fine, both from my desktop via USB and from my laptop via WiFi. However, the next day I could not print from my laptop. I discovered that the printer was powered off (my desktop computer runs 24/7). After I turned the printer on I still could not print from my laptop and got this message:

I keep getting this even if I power my desktop computer off. How do I fix this?

I've tried all that and more with no result. However, I just now tried to print something from my laptop and it wouldn't print, saying the printer was off line. So I went and turned it on and it started printing. Why is the printer powering off by itself? My previous printer didn't do that.

Check your settings. Some have auto power off.
