topic Printer off line in Desktop Inkjet Printers

I have a Canon MG5150 printer. The power is on, the ink supply is good the printer is connected to a USB port on my computer with the cable that came with the printer, It is the default printer. When I try to print a photograph I get two messages. Firstly the printer is off line, the second the printer does not recognise the the USB device. I have tried 'diagnose and repair' and checked everthing as much as I can but the problems persist. Can anyone help please.
