topic Pixma IX6860 - solid black appears 'patchy' in Desktop Inkjet Printers

Hi all,

Whenever I print something that is entirely black, ie a solid black rectangle, the black always comes out 'patchy' - there are visible black dots that are darker than the background. Bit hard to explain but this image is a good example of what I mean:

No other colours have this problem, it's just black. So far I've tried:

- Gloss paper (light and heavy)

- Photo paper

- Regular A4 copy paper (it was noticeably better here, but not as good as all the other colours)

- Heavy paper (300gsm)

- Running through all the printers cleaning/aligning

- Trying various combations of print settings, including different paper types, quality presents, colour settings etc

- Tried printing from various file types

- Tried RGB and CMYK

- Disabling and enabling colour management on the printer itself

Nothing really seems to work! Any ideas? I had though of trying another set of black cartridges but I don't want to go out and buy more stuff if it's a problem with the printer itself.

Cheers!
