I'm posting this in case someone else is having the same problem. With a new MacBook Air with Ventura OS I could not for the life of me get it to scan using Image Capture, whereas my I had been easily able to with my older MacBookPro. After hours of googling, talking with Mac Support, tearing out hairs, uninstalling, re-installing, downloading drivers, etc etc etc. unplugging, rebooting, changing settings: I looked at the software links one more time and tried installing a different driver that I hadn't tried before, and it finally worked. The one that worked for me was ICA Driver Ver.5.0.0 (Mac) on this page: https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-ts9020. If you are having a similar problem/error message when trying to use ImageCapture with a new device or updated Mac OS, that might help.
