Greetings,

The printer supports 2 connection methods. 2.4Ghz wireless or USB. Trying to use both is not recommended.

Why: Unless you want to have more than one instance of the printer installed, your OS and/or your applications may not pick the correct communication method when you are trying to print.

USB hubs - never recommended. Whether powered or unpowered, especially for a peripheral such as a printer. Always connect your USB printer directly to your motherboard or USB port. USB hubs introduce an additional layer of complexity (and chipset compatibility) that doesn't always work.

Recommendation: Pick one interface and go with that.

Unfortunately, your frustration appears to be the result of environment or choices which are not generally recommended as best practice.

iP8720 both usb and WS?

I have never in my 16 years of using Canon printers had such a difficult time installing one. I ended up using my old usb cord from my iP7720 to connect via a usb hub, it took 4 hours and finally I ended up installing it manually. However, I was always able to have a WS version of this on my computers, and a dedicated to the main system, is there a way for me to get that to happen again with the iP8720, I am sure that I need to replace the old connection but it would be nice to have both.

Well, I did get it to work, and plugging it directly to the main system did not work at all! I tried 9 times using the installation disc with no resolution or function, it would just fail each time. Therefore, I went back to my hub connection and it worked first time and I installed it manually. I do have both functions available now for others on the same network. I have 6 systems networked that needed access and the WS function was needed more so for them not my main system.
Thank you, although really Canon needs to improve on the installation process, it was never this complicated in the past 16 years. I've never had such difficulty just getting it to work on my main system. It should be much easier, and their techs need to re-evaluate the install process. Had I not had the years of experience I do with systems, I would had given up and returned the printer as defective as a regular consumer. It should be more a plug and play, not this dang complicated.
