strange orange plastic thing fell out of my new mg2522 printer and pg-243 question

I'm new to Canon printers..... and when I was taking the tape off my new printer there was a strange orange plastic odd shaped thing that fell out... I found no indication of what it was for... maybe it was just something for packing while shipping? It has T1-1 and >PS-HI< imprinted on it.......

Also, the pg-243 and 244 ink cartridges seem to have a piece of dark scotch tape applied to the electrical contacts and the ink output slot but it looks like the contacts and slot itself are not covered.... is this normal? I'm inclined to leave the tape in place.

The orange plastic piece you found is a protective cover. It is designed to secure the printhead during shipping. This ensures that the printhead remains safe and undamaged before you set up the printer. You mentioned tape on the cartridges:

Steps to Remove the Orange Plastic

Open the Printer: Access the printhead area by lifting the front cover of the printer.
Locate the Orange Part: Identify the orange plastic piece that is still attached to the printhead.
Gently Remove It:
- Look for any tabs or pull points on the orange part.
- Carefully pull it straight out without twisting or forcing it, as this could damage the printhead.
Check for Stuck Pieces: If part of the orange plastic remains stuck, inspect the area closely. Use a flashlight to see if any pieces are lodged inside.

Installing the PG-243 Ink Cartridge

Prepare the Cartridge: Remove the PG-243 ink cartridge from its packaging. Make sure to remove any protective tape or seals.
Insert the Cartridge: Align the cartridge with the printhead and push it in until it clicks into place.
Close the Printer: Once the cartridge is installed, close the printer cover securely.

As posted the orange plastic is the print head protector during shipping, any tape should be removed from the cartridge contacts or the printer will not see the cartridges.
