The MP640R has been retired and there are no updated drivers to work with your operating system. A series that would be similar to your MP640R would be our TS series printers and they will work with your operating system.

Since the printer is not compatible with your operating system, you would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please the Canon Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Mon-Sat, 9 AM to 9pm EST excluding holidays.

Did this answer your question?

Since upgrading to OS Monterey I can no longer print to my PIXMA MP640R. With previous OS I lost the ability to wirelessly do everything except print. Now I can't do anything at all. There are no new drivers available. Is there any way to reconnect the printer?

I have a similar issue. Upgraded to new M1 Macbook with Monterey and my Pro 9000 Mk II is now a paperweight unless I keep my 2012 Mac Mini working.

This is an expensive and fully functioning printer! This is unacceptable and after speaking with Canon Sales there is no special offer to make it worthwhile to buy a new canon printer.

I have the same problem with a 3620. It is on my network and my older Mojave computers still work fine but the Monterey computer often stops working. So far the only solution is to re-install the drivers.

Are you suggesting the drivers for Mojave (10.14.x) work on an M1 architecture? I'm temped to copy over the files from /Library/Printers/Canon and /Library/Printers/PPDs to my new macbook and give it a try. Apple dropped support for 32 bit code so I wasn't sure if this would be problematic.

No. I downloaded the latest drivers and installed them on my Monterey machine. However, they may be the same as the Mojave drivers. I don't know.
