You sound confused. Is this printer new? Do you have the installation instructions, and software that comes with it?

This is a USB-connect printer. No wireless. There's no Ethernet involved.

Typically you need to install the software/driver before connecting the printer to the computer.

Hi, Joyleen7!

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know which Canon printer model you're using, exactly which operating system is running on your computer or mobile device (i.e. Windows, macOS, Android, or iOS, and which version thereof), and what kind of connect you're hoping to use. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.

Thanks and have a great day!

Start from scratch. Look at Windows's Settings-> Apps and if there is anything listed related to this printer, uninstall it....driver, software....restart the computer, and start from the beginning, with printer not plugged into power outlet and NOT connected to the computer. If following ALL the instructions PRECISELY still doesn't work, call Canon. There's always a possibility the printer is defective.
