topic MG8120 AIO Top won't stay up in Desktop Inkjet Printers

Hello Canonicals,

I have an MG8120 AIO that I use only for scanning. When it was new, I'd lift the cover to scan and it would stay up and open until I lowered it. Not it won't stay up; it slams shut. Inconvenient, and I worry about breaking the scanner glass.

Does anyone know how to adjust the top hinges so it will way up? Many thanks!

AS

I'm the original poster, bumping this up. I have learned that the top is called the document cover. There must be some kind of clutch that has failed, because the document cover will not stay open, so it's difficult to swap papers on and off the scan glass.

Does anyone have a clue on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

ArthurJ,

Thanks for your reply. I can likely change the part out myself. Can you tell me what the part is called, and its number?

Thanks again.
