We just bought a MX922 printer and every time we go to print it sounds like it does a cleaning and we have to wait until it finishes. Is this normal?

The PIXMA MX922 will perform a purge operation before printing, which ensures that the first print prints correctly. This process is what you are hearing and is normal.
