MF735Cdw interrupts incoming voice (not fax) calls

My MF735Cdw often (not always) attempts to 'receive' a fax by 'answering' a voice (i.e., non-fax) call that is in progress, even when RX is set to "manual" or "answering machine." Something is triggering it to 'pick-up' the phone line, even when no fax tones are heard. Is this a known problem? Anyone have a solution?
