Pink stripes across my colour prints

MP610 printer. Recently, when I print colour, like grey or brown, I get stripes of pink across the picture.

What could be causing this? And what can be done about it?

Guys! What am I doing wrong?

I am sure there must be someone out there who knows what is going wrong with my printer - it can't be a miracle or unique - and whether I should

change cartridge,
kick the printer in a sensitive place or
throw it in the trash.

Btw, I did try to clean the head through the Properties window.

Goodness me, 69 people looked at the question...
