New Pixma 922 printer, the LCD screen is white. Any suggestions?

I bought a new Pixma 922 printer but wasn't able to give it as a gift until a month later. When we finally plugged it in, I noticed the LCD screen is white, and the little buttons underneath it aren't lit. The printer works beautifully and prints documents and photographs just great! But I can't give it as a gift if there's something wrong with it! I bought it from a business on ebay that only has 30 day returns. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix the problem? I'm hoping it's something I can do. Thanks for any suggestions.
