Please help. I have an MG6650 connected to my Mac with only a USB wire. I could copy, print and scan using the LED display on the MG6650 no problem until now. But I think I have messed up the settings for scanning somehow. So now I cannot scan. What used to happen is I used the LED display to scan then the scan came up in the 'Image Garden' on my screen. But this no longer happens. What have I reset or done wrong please? I have tried all the online manuals and they all assume one has downloaded the software and are just too complicated. I have not downloaded any software but the scan function used to work fine. I fear I may have reset something or that I've forgotten the correct sequence for pressing the LED display buttons?

Dear John,

Thank you so much for trying to help me - I am using 10.12.1. I do remember now that I was prompted to update the Mac. It was a long process - couple of hours - and I fancy the screen and a few other things changed.

Mark

Mark Doyle
International development and conflict journalist/consultant
mark@cmarkdoyle.com
@Doylebytes

Four times winner of United Nations Correspondents Association annual journalism awards.
A good man in Rwanda - 2014 winning entry

Thanks John - I did that but nothing different hapenned. When I press Scan on the LED a new prompt comes up saying "Doc type: Auto Scan Placing domuments Local (USB)" but no combination of pressing any of these on the LED, or the buttons on the outside of the printer, makes an image pop up in 'Image Garden' like it used to......

I found this on web. If this doesn't work do you have access to Canon supportt line?

There is one in US but based on printer model it looks like you are in UK?

http://mac.thetutorialfree.com/2016/09/24/how-to-quickstart-with-canon-mg6640mg6650-scanner-on-mac-os-x-10-12-sierra/

Hi mark. I'm not sure about the toolkit. Do you have IJ Scan Tool or something of a similar name in your Canon Utilities folder?

If not go to Canon site and download. Try scanning from computer using the tool.

Hi John I took your advice and phoned the cannon support line (UK). They showed me how to do the IJ facility thing and it worked! They are going to send me the best driver direct and I'll try that to see if I can make the LED buttons work.If I cant I'll just use the IJ shortcut they have given me. I am really grateful for your help = thank you John.

Yes, cannon later told me there is a compatibility problem with Sierra and the LED buttons. So I'll stick to the other method. You were a great help to me - thank you.
