Canon pixma mg5600 won't allow printing of B&W because colour ink has ran out

Hi,

My canon mg5600 will not print in B&W as my colour ink cartridges are out... Even though I only need to print B&W documents and have no need for colour ink. The printer also has a scanner counter-part which is also not allowing me to scan documents as the "out of colour ink" warning message is blocking the user-interface.

I have been through the printers preferences/properties and ensured that the printers defualt settings are the print only in gray scale yet this has not fixed the problem.

This for ovbious reasons looks very bad of canon.

Please help me print my B&W docs. I have pre-purchessed many PGBK cartridges for docs. now I can not use them becuase of this problem.
