My MX470 also produced this error when I was trying to print a single sheet of US letter sized adhesive-backed labels. The printer only tries to detect the paper size when it picks the first sheet for a printing session (print job). My work-around was to put a single sheet of plain paper on top of the label sheet and then change my printer options to print 2 copies. It detected the top sheet of plain paper with no problem so the first copy page printed on the plain paper and the second copy page printed on the label sheet with no problem. You just have to waste a single sheet of plain paper.
