PIXMA MG2922 The insane 4102 error! This is a well document error that Canon does not address??

I have the MG-2922 and this will not print a 8x10 on photo paper. Only works with the plain paper option (looks terrible). In other sizes eg.4x6 it only has the glossy option available. So is there a work around or firmware update in the works that can allow you to print photos in 8x10 on say PM-101??? Cheap printers are available everywhere by other MFGs that allow photo paper options for printing.

Hello.

For photo papers, the only sizes that are supported with the MG2922 are 4"x6" and 5"x7". For larger photo paper sizes, a printer in a higher PIXMA series would have to be used.

I have been a Canon customer for years and have owned numerous scanners, printers, and AIOs made by Canon.

I was happy with my last PIXMA printer, but am absolutely furious that the limited photo paper size was not made clear for the MG2920 -- neither in the advertising, nor (if at all), extremely ambiguously (and seemingly deceptively) in the manuals and instructions online and offline.

I'm also deeply dissatisfied with all the reference material and support available for the machine.

I am aware it's a cheap machine. The writing, illustration, website build and technical writing for this product are all incredibly substandard in quality. I didn't know Canon would stoop so low; you have lost a loyal customer.

Shameful deception by obfuscation from Canon.

And the run around given to people on the forum.....awful.

I don't understand why there is not a notice which states 'Please be aware that this printer cannot print A4 photograhs using glossy papers'.

Simple honesty.

No more Canon for me either.

I can't even print a 5x7 on glossy paper with my mg2922. I've had this printer for a few months, but I'm ready to give it to my church so they can have a back up printer. I've learned my lesson: don't buy canon products. I should have saved the $50 I just spent on ink and put it towards a better, more options offered printer. Like Lexmark. Why I switched, I don't know. The help forum is a joke unless you want to pay $28 on a technician just to have them tell me there's nothing that can be done because this is a very poor printer.

I can't even print a 5x7 on glossy. Very bad printer I unfortunately purchased. Going back to Lexmark. Should have stayed with that brand when my old one wore out. Printed wonderful pictures in 8x10, 5x7 and 4x6. AND on glossy paper.

That is like saying "This word processing program is capable of printing documents that have no more than 7 occurrences of the letter Q"

It is a dot matrix printer. It should be capable of printing photo-quality everywhere on the platen. The fact that you put white margins, restrictions on the relation between quality and paper size, means that your driver has DISABLED features anyone should expect a printer to have.

You have just put in disabling limitations.

It is like a typewriter where, if it senses that your name has an L in it, refuses to go more to the right than halfway!

Horrible, unethical practise.

This is a rip off. I have owned more than a dozen Canon printers and used them a lot for printing out photos in A4. And now you go and sabotage your own products without informing customers at all. This is border line fraud. And telling us that we need to buy more high-end Canon printers to print larger sizes is outraegous. You sold me this printer as a PHOTO printer, not as a 'Photo printer for small sizes'. You know, photos come in all sizes and this is an A4 printer and a photo printer.

And then you have the gall on this forum to mark the problem as Solved! When the 'solution' is to NOT print any larger than 4x6 photos. That is not a solution to the problem and when this answer came up in Google I of course believed there was a real solution on this page. Shame on you.

I can assure you that not only is this the last Canon printer I will ever buy but I will also be quite vocal in telling my customers and colleagues about your despicable behaviour towards your customers. By this you've not only lost a loyal customer but also a staunch advocate. I am now forced to go and tell the people I've advocated your products to that I can't do that any more and that I advise them to buy their printers from other manufacturers.

Goodbye Canon, I'm off to check which printer to buy as I donate this Canon 'printer' to some charity that doesn't need to print out photos.

No this has not been resolved. To claim that it is intended to be like this and not allow a 8x10 photo print is in no way acceptable. There is no reason for this other than to shaft the customer and basically force them to buy another printer on top of this one. It is entirely software and in no way related at all to hardware. Very deceptive, I would not have purchased had it been made clear. Cannon has lost yet another long time customer and as many others as I can warn about it. As I know a great many influencers on youtube and other social media platforms that will be many thousands of potential customers that cannon has just lost unless this issue is fixed.

This is beyond shameful and unethical, not making it clear that it would not print a photo on all size pages that the fit into the printer might also be illegal. I'm checking into it. Cannon just got another, I repeat "another" report on them to the BBB. That they are getting several shows it's getting attention. Attention cannon might not be able to long afford. Screw your customers cannon, you lose them. This will be the last I and everyone I can reach out to will purchase. Social media and the consumer protection act/BBB will spread this kind of thing far and wide.

I too am dismayed and astonished that I cannot print a glossy photo larger than 6" x 4". Had I known this I would have continued to buy Epson, whose inexpensive printers I've used for over 30 years.

I saw no mention of this serious limitation when I bought via Amazon. Today for first time I wanted to print and frame an important photo about 8" x 5" as a gift for friends whose dog had just died, so had to resort to a plain paper print.

I won't buy Canon again, and I'll warn friends and colleagues too.

I have just encountered this problem when I simply wanted to print a picture on an A4 sheet of glossy photo paper on my MG2965 and couldn't understand why the printer refused to print and gave a some bizarre error about the page size or media type being wrong. Why have Canon sabotaged the printer driver to stop people from doing a basic print job like this? And to claim the problem is 'solved' by only using teeny weeny pieces of photo glossy paper is just absurd!

I printed the picture with the printer set to 'Plain Paper' and the 'Print Photo' mode instead... the results were mediocre, to say the least.

You have to make a payment to them in the form of buying a printer (the same printer) with that feature not disabled in the driver.

In other words, they have disabled some features of your printer driver intentionally.

I am not a fan of this no 8x10 glossy paper print (or borderless printing) with some Canon printers as well. I bought a Canon TS3722 that would not print 8x10s to replace a ten year old Brother all in one that quit printing. The Canon printer's limitation escaped me. I don't remember reading it on the box and the sales staff at Walmart certainly did not tell me. I kept the Canon for about a month and gave it to friends who didn't care about printing photos at all. I replaced it with an MG3620 (low price on sale from Amazon. I searched for and read all the specs) which works quite well. I could cheat the 3722 by printing 8x10 glossys setting the printer to plain paper but it quit doing that also. I could swear it learned what I was doing.
